can a teen do this internet stuff?

My first introduction to the ecommerce aspects of the internet was through a 13 year old who had a tiny fan club website for a fairly obscure rock band he was interested in. He had a couple of banners on his site that paid for clicks to commercial sites and recieved a check every month for $30 or so.

Most affiliate programs insist that you be 18 or older to recieve a check. This doesn't mean you can't work something out with a parent or other significant adult in your life. Like having a co-signer for a loan for something very expensive, you can have checks sent to a parent. The obvious important thing about this is that the parent know about the deal and agree to it. (Otherwise this could work out to be an activity that might make life harder rather than more rewarding.)

Parents can be fairly easily enlisted as business partners because it's an activity that can be exciting and fun and fairly safe for their child and at the same time it makes them a part of an activity with their child that gives them some meaningful internet supervision time mixed with "quality time" with their child. The parent's name is on everything their child does for the world wide web to see, so teens should expect that parents might be more likely to be involved than in other activities with less public exposure.

An important element of success in being able to engage in an internet business if you're still in school and have housekeeping and other responsibilities in the home scene is your ability to be wise about how much of a project one takes on. A site with only one little page and only a little information that brings in only a few visitors can be much more profitable than a site with many pages and tons of information that doesn't bring in anything because parents closed it down due to the fact that other responsibilities were being ignored.
